BMS insists on building on subject construction, and actively promote the development of basic medical sciences/biomedical sciences, striving to create world first-class disciplines. BMS has 1 national key discipline in Human Anatomy & Histoembryology, 6 provincial key disciplines in Human Anatomy & Histoembryology, Immunology, Pathogenic Biology, Pathology & Pathophysiology, Genetics and Pharmacology, 3 key laboratories at provincial and ministerial level, which are the key laboratory of Experimental Teratology of Ministry of Education, the key laboratory of Mental Disease of Shandong Province (Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical), the key laboratory of infection immunity of Shandong province. Pharmacology & Toxicology, Neuroscience & Behavioral Sciences, Biology & Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology & Genetics enter into the top 1% of ESI.

To promote reform in teaching, scientific research and management system, BMS has established 19 course groups, 28 Scientific teams and 5 research centers covering oncology, neuroscience, immune microenvironment and diseases, metabolic disease and hereditary disease, aiming for establishing an outstanding basic medical subject group of international advanced level and innovative scientific research achievement. In the recent 5 years, the teaching faculty of BMS have undertaking over 200 national scientific research projects and more than 200 provincial-level projects including 9 national key projects, are supported with 172.4 million RMB scientific research funds. More than 900 academic papers were published and over 20 papers were in world-famous academic journals such as Cell, Cell Stem Cell, Nature Genetics, Nature Immunology, Nature Communications, PNAS, Cancer Cell, Journal of Clinical Investigation, The Journal of Experimental Medicine, Gut, and Gastroenterology.
