On December 11th, the expert group assigned by the Ministry of Education came to Shandong University to conduct a special investigation on the education of international MBBS students.

The group leader is Professor Tian Qingbao, Dean of the School of International Education, Hebei Medical University. The expert group includes Professor Dai Yalei at School of Medicine of Tongji University) and Professor Meng Yong, Director of General Surgery Department at the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College.

There are two parts of the investigation. Gui Wei, the Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Education Department of Shandong Province, Liu Hongxuan, Party Committee Secretary of Cheeloo College Medicine, Wang Fengshan, Vice-dean of Cheeloo College Medicine, Zhao Fuchang,Party Committee Secretary of School Of Basic Medical Sciences, and Gao Chengjiang, Dean of School Of Basic Medical Sciences, and Mu Daoyu, Party Committee Secretary of School of Medicine attended the relevant activities.

At the meeting, Liu Hongxuan gave a brief introduction to the teaching situation of undergraduate education at Shandong University.

Tian Qingbao clarified the purpose and significance of this special investigation and introduced the situation and background of the members of the expert group. He said that the expert group will uphold the principles of professionalism, objectivity, impartiality and responsible attitude to carry out the investigation. He also introduced the form used of this investigation.

Wang Fengshan introduced the MBBS program of Shandong University in detail from the aspects of admission, teaching, graduation and student management, and summarized the problems and solutions encountered by the current development.

After the report, the expert group carried out listening to the lecture randomly, student interviews, informal teacher discussion, clinical practice observation, file data check and so on. They gave a full affirmation to the exploration of assimilation management model, the application of a variety of teaching models and the normative management. The relevant person in charge of Department of International Affairs, Undergraduate College, Department Of Student Affairs, etc. participated in the relevant activities.

This investigation is comprehensive of MBBS program in China by the Ministry of Education, which is of great significance for normalizing the medical education of international students in China and improving the cultivation quality of international students. The MBBS program at Shandong University has been in existence for 18 years since it was founded in 2002. In recent years, under the overall leadership of the relevant departments and Cheeloo College of Medicine, and with the active cooperation of School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Medicine and clinical hospitals, the MBBS program of Shandong University has achieved progress in teaching quality and standardizing management, etc.

Through this investigation, the MBBS program will develop its advantages, improve the shortcoming, further promote the overall construction of English-teaching teachers, and improve the teaching level of young teachers, and thus cultivate medical professionals in accordance with international needs.
