Nature! Jinpeng Sun's group collaborated with Hua Tian/Zhijie Liu's group, and analyzed the bitterness perception mechanism with Yang Chi's group
May 30, 2024

On May 22, the team of Professor Sun Jinpeng of Shandong University participated in the research led by the team of Hua Tian and Liu Zhijie of the iHuman Research Institute of ShanghaiTech University and the School of Life Science and Technology, and cooperated with the team of Yang Chi of the Ninth People's Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine to publish the title of "Bitter taste TAS2R14 online in the form of "Accelerated Article Preview" (AAP) in Nature activation by intracellular tastants and cholesterol". ShanghaiTech University is the first author and final corresponding author, and Shandong University is the co-first author and co-corresponding author. Together, the research team revealed the molecular mechanism and structural basis of the bitter taste receptor TAS2R14 recognize plant-derived Aristolochic acid (AA), the drug molecule flufenamic acid (FFA) and compound 28.1 and couple them to different G proteins downstream (Fig. 1). This article provides a new perspective on the molecular mechanism of bitter taste receptors TAS2R14 recognition of multiple bitter molecules, and the direct regulation of bitter receptors by cholesterol, which provides molecular mechanism and theoretical guidance for the development of drugs for TAS2R14. This article is also another breakthrough in the field of research on the chemical perception of bitterness in the human body.
