On January 30, a research paper titled “Identification, Structure and Agonist Design of an Androgen Membrane Receptor” was published online in Cell. The study was conducted by Professor Sun Jinpeng’s team from the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University, in collaboration with Professor Ines Liebscher’s team from the University of Leipzig, Germany, as well as Professor Yi Fan’s, Professor Xiao Peng’s, and Professor Yu Xiao’s teams from Shandong University. The research team screened and identified GPR133/ADGRD1 as the membrane receptor for the androgen 5α-DHT, clarified its regulatory role and molecular mechanism in skeletal muscle, and developed specific small-molecule ligands for GPR133. This work provides a theoretical basis for the development of innovative androgen replacement drugs and offers new insights into anti-aging research.
