On March 14th, the team led by Professor Sun Jinpeng from the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University, in collaboration with the teams led by Professors Jiang Changtao and Kong Wei from the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Peking University, and Professor Yu Xiao’s team from Shandong University, published a research paper online in Science entitled “Metabolic signaling of ceramides through the FPR2 receptor inhibits adipocyte thermogenesis”. This study is the first to identify FPR2 as the membrane receptor for ceramides in adipocytes, systematically clarifying the regulatory mechanism of the ceramide-FPR2 signaling axis in adipose thermogenesis, and reveals the molecular basis for FPR2’s specific recognition of ceramides. This groundbreaking work not only provides a novel perspective for in-depth understanding of the biological functions of ceramides but also opens up a new research direction for the targeted therapy of metabolic diseases.
