I. Introduction to the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University
The School of Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) is affiliated with the Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University. Cheeloo College of Medicine encompasses 7 schools, 4 affiliated hospitals, and 2 centers. It is one of the earliest medical institutions in China, boasting a history of over 120 years.
The School of Basic Medical Sciences consists of 12 departments and 7 research centers, with a full - time teaching faculty of 188 members (including 77 professors and 83 associate professors), and over 2,100 full - time students.
In the past five years, the teaching staff of BMS has undertaken over 200 national - level scientific research projects and more than 200 provincial - level projects. Among these, 9 are national key projects, supported by a total of 172.4 million RMB in scientific research funds. More than 900 academic papers have been published, with over 20 in world - renowned academic journals such as *Cell*, *Cell Stem Cell*, *Nature Genetics*, *Nature Immunology*, *Nature Communications*, *PNAS*, *Cancer Cell*, *Journal of Clinical Investigation*, *The Journal of Experimental Medicine*, *Gut*, and *Gastroenterology*.

II. Introduction to the Basic Medical Sciences Research Internship Program(BMS - RIP)
This program, offered by the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University, is a laboratory - based research internship designed for international students from partner institutions. Its aims are to foster international collaboration and exchange, and to leverage the school's scientific research strengths. The program typically lasts 1 - 3 months. During this period, international students will carry out scientific experiments under the guidance of BMS supervisors. Through this program, students will have the opportunity to acquire advanced scientific research knowledge, such as techniques and data - analysis methods relevant to specific research projects. They will also participate in laboratory discussions, seminars, and scientific research presentations. This program is expected to cultivate students' interest in scientific research, enhance their research capabilities, and lay a solid foundation for their future academic development.

III. Acceptance Requirements
- Recommended by a professor whose research field is similar.
- Be a postgraduate student (A small number of undergraduate students can be accepted).
- Demonstrate an interest in basic medical sciences research.
- Have a good command of English.
- Possess certain basic professional knowledge and practical skills.
- Be willing to abide by the regulations of the laboratories at the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University.

V. Application Procedure
Submit the Application Form and Research Plan Form (download tables from attachment) and a letter of recommendation (in a free format) for the Basic Medical Sciences Research Internship Program of Shandong University, along with a research plan and a recommendation letter, to: bmsinternational@sdu.edu.cn. The School of Basic Medical Sciences will respond to the applicant within 10 working days. Applicants may be requested to provide additional relevant materials upon receiving the feedback.
VI. Application Time
Please follow the notice from Shandong University (In principle, applications can be submitted at any time, but there are reviews four times a year, namely in January, April, July and October of 2026.)
VII. Visa and Accommodation
The program will assist students in applying for visas to enter China and arrange on or off - campus accommodation.
VIII. Fees & Expenses
- Tuition: 1200 yuan/week
- Experiment material cost: 500 yuan/week
- On (or Off) - campus accommodation: approximately 1200 yuan/month
- Living expenses: approximately 1500 yuan/month
