Dr Hao graduated from Shandong Medical University with a M.D. in Clinical Medicine. She completed a PhD at the National University of Singapore. She returned to Shandong University as academic staff in 2004, following research position in molecular biology at Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Singapore. She is head of the Department of Histology and Embryology of Shandong University; Vice Chairman of Shandong Society for Anatomical Sciences; Member of The American Society for Neuroscience; Member of The American Society for Cell Biology.

The main research interest is neural development and related diseases. Her research work is focused on neural stem cell and the underlying mechanisms of proliferation and differentiation. This topic has applications to neural injury and neurodegeneration diseases
